Welding and Welding Technology
Mr. Lewallen
Summary of Program
In this program you will be able to, when completed SMAW (Shielded metal arc Weld/Stick) weld in all 4 positions Flat, Horizontal, Vertical, and Overhead with Electrodes of 6010 and 7018. You will also be able to GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Weld/MIG Gun) in all 4 positions as well. GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding/TIG) in all 4 positions, this will be knowledge that you will learn more your second year of the program.
You will also be able to use Oxygen-Acetylene Torch to cut Materials, and also use the Plasma Arc Cutting Machine to reform accurate cuts. As a part of your second year you will not only be welding on Structural steel but some Pipe as well.
Processes Learned in the Welding Tech Class
OAW- Oxygen Acetylene Torch Cutting and Welding
PAC- Plasma Arc Cutting
SMAW- Shielded Metal Arc Welding
GMAW- Gas Metal Arc welding
GTAW- Gas Tungsten Arc Welding
Positions that you will be able to weld when you complete the course.
Flat-1F-1G
Horizontal-2F-2G
Vertical-3F-3G
Overhead-4F-4G
Pipe Welding Positions 2G, 5G, and 6G
Why Weld?
Most welders make from $40,000-$120,000 a year on average. $15-$40 hr
Job market is booming for welders, due to a shortage and older welders retiring.
If you want to see the country a traveling welder will always be shuffling jobs moving from state to state.
Good skill to possess even if you do not do it for a profession or career. Many farmers do this so they can save themselves money on repairs.
Different types of work include Oil Rigs, Ethanol Plants, Aircraft, Steel Mills, Nuclear Power Plants, Construction and Repair, and last but not least Maintenance everyplace has that.
