Construction Technology

Construction Technology students will actually build a house that the school district will put on the market and sell.  A great emphasis is placed on safety as the students will learn to use power tools.  Those tools include nail guns, table saws, and circular saws.  I also place a high priority on team work through professionalism and learning to enjoy hard work.  Instilling a positive work ethic in young adults while allowing them to grow and learn through an awesome hands on experience where they have to problem solve, corroborate, and cooperate is what building a house in Construction Tech. is all about.

Construction workers represent the single largest group of skilled workers in the nation's work force.  Those engaged in the construction field build, repair, and remodel homes, construct commercial buildings, airports, bridges, and roads, and many other types of construction.

Luke Steding (left,Senior, Branson) and Tanner Phelps (Senior, Reeds Spring) competed recently at the Southwest District Skills USA contest.  Tanner took 3rd place and won a Porter Cable impact driver-drill set.  Good job by both of these young men!

Our new year is underway and I am happy to report we are anxious to continue work on our house on Craig St.  Most of our new students are nearly half way through the online OSHA safety course.  Our open house at GTC is Thursday Oct. 22 from 4-7 pm..  Stop by then, and stop by here often to check on our continuing progress on the construction of the house.

Our house is in the dry.  We had 2 seniors who were officially already done with classes come back and help us finish with our roofing.  Big thanks to Anthony Griggs and Michael Hunt.  Another senior, Colton Turner, managed to come to school his last 3 days and work while dealing with an upper chest respiratory infection.  It has truly been a pleasure getting to know and work with these outstanding young men.
